Shonda Rhimes originally planned a teenage daughter for Derek who would convince him to take his job at the hospital. He would spend a lot of time trying to make up for the childhood he missed with her.

It looks like they eventually passed on this storyline for Derek and gave it to Mark. Remember his pregnant teenage daughter, Sloan? Now that whole thing was a mess…9. Bailey Was Supposed To Be Blondetenor. It’s hard to think of Miranda Bailey as anyone other than Chandra Wilson. Chandra is so perfect for this role! They spout off medical terminology like they’ve been speaking it their whole lives. And they even look like they know what they’re doing in surgery. Now how is that possible? The executive producer of Grey’s, Jim Parriot, revealed that a lot of work goes into making Grey’s as medically accurate as possible.

The show has their own medical producer, Linda Klein. She brings in real medical experts to ensure that everything is as factual as possible. And, she even brings in real surgeons!
